Sounds like your PCV/CCV fittings and lines are old and worn out. I replaced all of mine for about $50.

Blow by. Rings are tired. There was a thread someplace about using a catch can in line on the CCV and save the air filter.

Start here. Some blow by is normal. CCV line that is supposed to suck it all into the manifold gets clogged by them. After 25-26 years it's probably clogged!

Extremely rare on a 4.0. Clogged CCV linea are a big culprit as already mentioned.

Here's another trick to do along with the CCV lines, expecially if your valve cover gasket needs replacing anyways:

Cruiser’s Valve Cover Mod
Most early and even later Renix 4.0s could be bothered by excessive oil in the air cleaner box. A fix from my old days as Service Manager at a Jeep dealership follows. Information was provided to me from a buddy at JeepTech during those days. I don’t believe it ever came out in a Technical Service Bulletin.

Remove the valve cover and turn it over. Next, remove the fluted tubes that are now facing you by removing three screws on each. Chop 1 inch off each of them. Then, about a half inch up from the area where you just sawed them off, drill a half inch hole in the tubes so the holes will face the rear of the valve cover. Clean and de-burr/sand all rough edges nicely, clean with solvent, and reinstall. Don’t be concerned about the chintzy gaskets that will probably crumble into oblivion when you remove the fluted tubes. They can go back together without gaskets.

I keep meaning to do that cruiser! Mine is pushing oil in to the air box worse and worse it seems. I always plan it out but never get it done. Some thing always comes up like axle swaps or ax15 swaps. Once I get the front axle and the ax15 in I will do this mod and a cowl snorkel. Everything you have ever told me has always been spot on. My renix runs amazing now thanks to your tutelage
