99 cherokee no start

yes everything was fine.
just talked to the PO and i figured since the gas gauge isn't sensing gas in the tank then it has to be a fuel problem because the one time it did start the gauge was working. He said that the fuel sending unit was prob the problem and he had to replace it before.
i did run the gas down pretty far before this happened so Im thinking this could be the cause.
anyone know how to test to see if the fuel sending unit is actually the problem. i don't want to start pouring money i don't have into this jeep
