If you spend enough time in the XJ forums you'll see plenty of stock Jeeps taking on some pretty gnarly terrain. Regardless of what type of terrain you will be taking on a small lift, probably up to 3" would help get some taller tires under your rig. Taller tires= ground clearance. A lift greater than 3" changes your driveline geometry and requires a little more work and money. A body lift cannot be done on an XJ because of the unibody, no frame like the CJ,YJ,TJ,JK guys.

3" body lift and 35s...
But, then youll have to upgrade to the d35 rear axle.

That's a good option, if you don't mind cutting your fenders. I've been thinking about this myself. You get big freaking tires and a low center of gravity. Win-Win situation

Wow you guys are hilariously cruel !!! LOL AMH2013 your best bet is to start doing some research, this stuff has been covered alot and there's a lot of good information in previous posts.

P.S you can't do a body lift, cherokees don't have frames.

99Whitelightning: You need to drain your blinker fluid to get to them.

Don't listen to any of these tards they are all messing with you. I think you should do some trail riding / light wheeling with your stock rig for now. They are suprisingly capable stock. Read all you can about the different options for making your rig more capable. And start building your rig as need be. You will quickly learn what u can and cannot due with a stock rig. Then u can decide what modifications to make. Also make sure to keep that blinker fluid topped off.

keep it stock if its your only vehicle. i could not drive 100 miles round trip to school 3 days a week if my jeep had 35 inch mud terrains and a 6 inch lift.
