98 cherokee mileage. how much is too much?
Greetings motorists, off roaders, and beach buggiers. I'm in the market fo a new vehicle, and a jeep Cherokee seems like the best option all around. I found one that I like on Craigslist. However, it has 190,000 miles on it. It's got a straight six,
6" Rough Country lift,
33" A/T tires with about 85% of the read left,
Surco Safari roof rack,
Full-Size spare on the roof,
highlift jack,
steel bumpers front and rear,
Borla exhaust from headers down,
remote star/alarm, & an aftermarket radio.
He's asking $5,700 and is flexible.
I'd be much appreciative of any information that could help the new generation of jeep owner. Cheers.

Ya I regret buying my xj cause of the previous owners crap job with the lift. (Getting ready for OTK and crossover) Also aftermarket alarms never work right for long. The mileage doesn't scare me, but everything else kinda does hah ether way take your time and look at everything. Pull out a spark plug if you can, that alone can tell you about the maintenance and how it's running. Just my .02

Take someone among who knows what they're looking at. I wouldn't dismiss a lifted vehicle on that alone, because you can pretty much see what's right/wrong with a visual inspection of the suspension.
The mileage wouldn't scare me, but then again I don't mind tearing a motor apart or swapping in a new one. At this point in these vehicles life it's getting harder to find true low mileage examples. Then you need to consider a low mileage vehicle has just sat for the majority of its life, which can also be a negative.
Aftermarket alarms are easy to rip out, I've done a bunch and its not an issue if you know what you're doing.
In short, bring someone to check it out or have the vehicle inspected by your mechanic PRIOR to buying it. I've seen so many people bring in their newly purchased used car after the fact and they turn out to be complete money pits.

i think $5,700 is way to much for any cherokee with 190,000. $2,500-4,000 would be better. lift kits and tires and stuff do not raise the value . the cherokee will probably las for years to come, but thats way to much money. i see 98's 99's 2000's with under 100,000 going for that much.

I think he is jacking up the price just because of the lift kit which probably only cost 800-1000 bucks. Way to expensive. You can find other jeeps with that mileage for around 2 grand. Then do all the stuff he has for 1500-2000 more yourself
