gReading the owners manual for my 96 Jeep Cherokee I came across a reference to the factory supplied "cup holder" and how to install it and how to stow it. The console right side has a couple of half inch slots. The cup holder has plastic tabs that fit in those slots. The holder has a leg that comes down at an angle for support. When not in use, it can be stowed in the console bin. Got to looking at the cup holder in my XJ and I think I have the real deal. The prior owner complained that it always fell off and was quite useless. Judging by the amount of spilled coffee on the floor mat, I totally believe him. Two things were going on. One, the leg on the holder was broken off, causing it to be insecure. Two, it is a totally bad design. So I put my massive engineering talent to work and in 15 seconds decided what size screws and washers to use and solved the problem. Prior owner was not a real jeep buy. (He installed running boards instead).

I got one of these myself and absolutely hated it! The depth isn't deep enough so if you turned to fast or braked a little to hard, etc, whatever was in it would spill. Not to mention that unless your ebrake is uber uber tight, it won't let you pull the handbrake up enough. And with my truck being a manual, I kept hitting whatever was in it with my arm when I shifted gears lol While I do hate the stock cupholder my 94 has, which is the real stock one, it's much better than this thing lol But yah, that's just my opinion on it XD

Before paying the 25 bucks, I would probably make my own. Just a simple rectangle of nicely finished wood with two big holes cut in it and screwed to the edge of the console. Maybe an angle brace centered under it if necessary. Maybe a couple of plastic cups secured in the holes and cut to proper height to serve as holders if desired.
Simple and secure.
The idea is probably too inexpensive for a vendor to make any dough on.
But if someone desires to buy or use a MOPAR original style, I strongly suggest screwing it down.

bro i have been looking for an original cup holder for my 1996 for over 3 months. Where do I find one? Can you share more pics of it. I'm going to ask a friend to make one from a 3 D printer. The other people who replied to your post were talking about the after market one that goes on the center console not the one you have.

Where would you find one?.....why would you want one. I had a 96 I bought new back then and the cupholder was forever falling off. I figured it was designed by a summer intern
They did have a TSB(not a recall) involving replacing the plastic cover part the cupholder clipped into. Based on my experience it didn't really help.
