I HIGHLY doubt you have a 85 ZJ, yes it is possible you could somehow, possibly have a prototype but I dont think so. I doubt they were even thinking of a zj back then.

I have never heard o a zj pre 93 either. Post some pictures and you'll get better responses. Call your local jeep dealer and ask them to run the vin number or go to jeep.com and email them the vin and they'll email you a build sheet.

A. The dealer is wrong(like that never happens...) and its one of the XJ Wagoneers...
B. It's a Grand Wagoneer... and the dealer is wrong...
C. They have the original ZJ prototype... which was built on an XJ platform. I don't think it was as early as 85.. but it was before Chrysler took over in 87. Remember the first XJ prototype was built on a AMC Concord(Eagle) platform around 1981 or so.

This thread is so condiluted with information its scary, as its been said before the ZJ wasnt even made until 93. And I HIGHLY doubt you have a prototype, I've seen only one prototype 85 XJ in my entire life and someone on this forum used to own it but that was when AMC was experimenting with the soft top cherokee...

this time dealer is not wrong unless they had carbs in 93 not the subframe thicker than most and it has 4.56 gears and this is cherokee pioneer by vin#

because it says ZJ in the upper right hand corner of the catalyst makes it a ZJ?
