Amen. I swapped a 231 in my jeep and a 242 in my buddies. We both wheel about the same and beat the **** out of our rigs, guess who's t-case busted about the sixth time out? His, the 242. My 231 is still going strong.

Not having an owners manual I'd be interested to hear what it says about patchy snow and the 242. Also, what do you mean by AWD? I thought that FT meant you _could_ drive on pavement in 4FT all day long.

I'm not going to dig out my manual. If yours is close grab it and look it up. I read mine from my first and only jeep with a 242 it was a 91 limited. It was vary clear that it was not designed to handle that kind of traction. If I remember right it was in big bold letters too. But hay if you like weaker parts then good for you. I'll be glad to lend a hand when weaker parts fail and trash talk the hole time.
