Default Is the 2011 IRS 225MM axle a Dana 44?

This is for a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo W2K REAR axle.

Im having a heck of a time figuring out what the IRS 225MM axle is...

I have had ONE person suggest it was indeed a DANA 44. BUT if this is the case why cant I find this information on a Google search?

Does ANYONE know what REAR axle the 2011 Grand Cherokee has other then a 225mm... because this has no meaning when purchasing gears.

I did find something that suggested the Dana 44 was a 226MM... But thats just shy of the 225MM that comes in the 2011 JGC.

Just trying to figure this out so I can fix the gas sucking lethargic gearing Jeep put in there. I'm going with 4.56's if I can figure out exactly what axle to purchase the gears for.

Does anyone have any leads to where I can dig to find out exactly what rear axle the WK2 has?

Am I asking this in the right section or should I post this in another section... If a mediator is reading this and you feel it would be better in another section PLEASE feel free to move it to where it may get an answer....

Thanks ahead of time to anyone who is able to shed some light... I'm new to the JEEP community...

I think you would be looking for grand cherokee tech, but you could contact jeep via the jeep website and ask them.....they should know more about the 2011 as that's spankin new stuff that I'm sure most people havnt had the money to dig into and it hasn't been out long enough to get a large amount of knowledge spread on the net.

I thought I originally posted this into the Grand Cherokee Tech section... I must have goofed.

Thanks for the responses Guys... At least I know there is some traffic on this forum...

If a mediator could please move this to the Grand Cherokee Tech Section it would be GREATLY appreciated... I dont want to Double post... Although It would raise my post count....

yup it is an 8.9" rear end. Noone can sau exactilly what it is other than it has a 225mm/8.9" ring and pinion. Your options may be limited on this one with it being so new.

Thanks for the input... One of the mechanics at the dealership suggested it was a DANA 44... But he said he could not tell for sure until he where to open one up.
