Default 2000 Grand Cherokee 4x4 question

Morning,

Looking at buying a 2000 Grand Cherokee 4x4 with 4.0l and 188k miles. I had an 88 Cherokee a while back and that think ran for ever, what about the Grand Cherokee's?

anything to look for?

Thanks

Engine runs forever like the Cherokee.

Transmissions not nearly as hardy as the XJ.

4.0 reliability is like no other engine... they'll take better care of you than you do of them, as long as you do regular maintenance.

Thanks all. Now what about a 2000 4.7 V8 with 250k miles? Anything left in the V8?

Thanks

Having a motor that you take good care of and reaching 250k is one thing. Taking on a motor that already has that many miles is another thing all together. The chances of getting to 250k without major work (if well cared for) is pretty decent, however the chances of getting another 100k out of that same motor without major work is quite a bit lower.

There are so many Grands available, I probably wouldn't settle for 250k on a motor. Not to mention that is a lot more heat cycles on the components and electrical harnesses as well. At 250k you start to get wires that fall apart in our hands when you work on them (because the insulation is so brittle). On a vehicle that is bound to need electrical work from time to time, that is a pain.
