Default 2000 cherokee help

recently, i was driving through town wen my jeep just dies, all gauges dropped, and only the eletricity was working... so i pulled over, try to turn it on again and just kept going but not kicked over. tryed to get it going my hitting the gas tank thinking its the fuel pump, hit the starter, put more gas in it and i was dead stuck. next morning went to go tow it and it started right up, i let it run for a bit, drove it to my friends shop but died once more on the way there, but it started right back up. i made it there and he said that since there was some flooding(my jeep was not in the flood) water could of got in somewhere and might be on some wires or something eletrical. any thought sugestions or anything?!?!?! i need some help

I'm not positive on the wiring schematics of the 2000 but I know most mid 90 models have the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) wired in to the ignition system and if it loses signal it kills all spark and the instruments as well. It only reverts to that sensor at above 1,500 rpm, while in gear and with a minimal 180 degree operating temp. If it's going bad it will kill your spark until the engine cools below 180. Then it may start and work fine or it may only run until it reaches those 2 combined thresholds (180 and above 1,500rpm) again.

I'd let it idle for awhile and see if it dies again. I'm thinking it won't.... If it doesn't, let it get to full operating temp (210) and try driving it. If it dies again around the 1,500 rpm range the VSS is your culprit....

May or may not be your problem but figured I'd chime in anyway.....

well i did let it idle today but it did not do anything, i drove it around locally and did do nothing.... my buddy thats a tech said that could be a crank sensor and i just recently put in a map sensor as well cuz i knew i needed one.... but i will look into the vss
