2000 Cherokee
Hi y'all this is my first post and I just wanted to say hello to everyone. I also have a question. I am looking to purchase a Jeep. Right now my hunting rig is a 2000 Ford 4x4 Off Road. I found a 2k Cherokee that looks like it has never been off road, at least by the pictures. It's got 134k on it. I do want to fix up whatever I get with a lift, tires winch, bumpers, roof rack ect. It would be used for hunting and mild off road exploration. My question is a 2000 model a good year? Any thing specific I need to look for or have checked out by a mechanic before I buy?
They are asking $5,500.00 for it. Is that a decent price? Thanks for your help.

5500 is waaaay high. Best bet would be to search private sales for them. But yes the 2000's are good. The only issue is sometimes they get 'heat soak'. And every Xj has its own personality. Some lift installs are flawless, others you need to torch the hell out of everything,
I have a 2000 sport, lifted 6.5-7in. Tires, roof rack, and a whole slew of other goodies. And I couldnt get 5500 for mine.

2000s have the 0331 head casting which is more prone to cracking, they have a low pinion dana 30 with standard cut gears (tad weaker than a 96-99 D30), they dont have a dist, instead the have coil packs..
With all that said I own a 2000 with 92k on it, I only paid 2900 for mine about 6 months ago.
For an unmolested 2000 with 130k on it id say 4k is a fair price, any higher id look elsewhere.

I can't see your location on my phone, but I think what everyone else is missing is that vehicle prices (especially older used vehicles) vary greatly by location. If you're in California like me, they're pricey as hell. Shop around and see what they're going for in your area.

Paid $1000 for mine in December
2000 4x4 135k miles stock female owned
Needed tail lite mirror and leafs
Could not be happier with it
Was registered in Maine but had no rust
Except bottom of front doors a little surface rust and one rear leaf shackle completely rotted
Found that out doing the springs!

1000 is basically a miracle happening for one like he described.
I bought a 98 last year with 190k on it, super clean, 3" lift, and BRAND new BFG ATs on it for 1500.
