im guessing axles out of a 2.5 ton truck..........it would be hard, but it has been done. you would pretty much have to build a frame, and cage the entire thing to make it sturdy enough just to hold em under it. after that its tons of fab and you would have to have a huge lift or no up travel because those things are huge. i will see if i can find pics of the one that comes to mind.
found a couple...

I wouldn't try it unless you have good fabrication skills. You will want to upgrade your transfer case also to something like an atlas or stack. You won't get it done in a weekend.

just the extreme weight of the 2.5 ton Rockwell would spook me a little. Extreme weight i mean compared to a Dana 60. Eatons might be a little more manageable.

a local put rockwells under his XJ. well he rolled it a few weeks back and all that weight pretty much crushed the roof flat. everyone was ok. and he was only doing donuts and it was slow roll.

Yeah Rockwells are a little overkill imo. If youre gonna go through the trouble of doing everything neccessary to make them work in an XJ, you'd come out cheaper just buildin a buggy with a good set of tons...Maybe a 60 with some chromo shafts and a 14 bolt
That's exactly what Im doing with woody. It wont be quite as huge as the pix posted but close. I actually like a heavier rig, and a lot of un-sprung weight. If you know how to use it to your advantage you can out wheel even the lightest rigs! It won't be easy for sure, but I have a really simple plan to make it happen. I will be posting a build thread as soon as thing start rolling along.
