Default 1998 grand 4.0 tsi?

Hello, I am looking at a 1998 grand 4.0 tsi ( not sure if that part is true) it may just be a laredo. I am new to jeeps, Im looking at this one because it has a very nice body, nice color, 112,000 miles and the interior is not wrecked. also it has the select transfer case (2wd). The place want $2800.00 of course I will negotiate till my teeth fall out. I am only worried because I read alot about these jeeps having trans failure, engine failure, front axles breaking. Any thoughts would help. i also know that maintenance is key to keep a vehicle going. I just want to know that if I decide to start camping with this vehicle I will be ok. Thanks for reading the post...........

I believe the I6 engine is solid on a gc but the automatic transmission that came with the I6 was a weak point. These are just things I've read here based on others experience. If I'm wrong on that someone will probably chime in.

The tsi was just a equipment package designation. I believe it fell between the Laredo an limited models. It is definitely not "turbo sport intercooled" which is what tsi originally stood for.
