Default 1997 JGJL alternator upgrade

First off sorry if this is in the wrong spot for I couldn't post where I thought this post should have gone for I am not a paid member. But my question is I want to upgrade the alternator to minimum of 200w and not finding ideas on the net beside stock stuff. I would preferably like a 200-250w that can still fit in the stock bolt areas. Or if anyone knows of something that wouldn't be to hard to fit into the area as an upgrade. Thnx for any advice from anyone . Not super hardcore jeep mud runner here , but always owned jeeps . Also looking for the back hatch for a '97, will look further into forums see if any around .

I'm going to guess here and say you have a grand? JGJL? Or do you mean Jeep Cherokee Grand Laredo?

Next, why such high amps? Pushing a stereo system or something?

FWIW I have a 97 Cherokee Sport, with an alt from a Dodge Durango 5.8l...it is 160 amps, I have this installed because I have extra lighting, a winch, and have wiring to run an inverter from the back, 2000 watts, when needed. Before you put this all in, you're gonna need to do the "big 3" upgrade (search this if you don't know), which means you need to beef up the wiring in your ride. I used 2 AWG copper for all my wiring.

Alternators are typically rated in amps, not watts. I believe Powermaster makes a compatible high-amp alternator (200-ish amps) but they aren't cheap. You'll have to elaborate on the JGJL part because I have no idea what that is.

Aftermarket alts can be had...Mean Green makes some upgraded units, I believe I've seen them up to 300 Amps, but they are expensive. I'm assuming Powermaster alts are much of the same. The aftermarket alts basically use the same housing, but increase the windings to gain the extra amps. Again, when doing a mod like this, upgrade your factory wiring unless you like fire. If you are looking for a swap on the cheap, the Durango alt is going to be the max amp wise, and you need to modify your alt bracket to make it work...there are plenty of write ups on this, refine your search or go to someone who knows what they're doing, you don't want to start doing things to your electrical system that can royally screw the pooch...
