Hello everyone. This is my 1st post so go easy...

Heres the deal,

I want to pull a popup camper about 2700lbs with a 1994 Cherokee Sport. My neighbor is selling the Cherokee. I am having it looked over by a mechanic as we speak.
My question is will the Cherokee be able to tow the popup? It doesnt have the tow package. Which leads me to another question, can I get 1 installed and is it expensive and hard to do? I really like the Jeep, but want to be able to tow with it. i looked at Edmunds.com and it said 2000lbs which is almost how much my wifes minivan can tow. Please help me out, I really want to buy the jeep.

 

I believe you can have 1500 lbs in the jeep and ive seen that you can tow 3500 lbs. That seems more right to me cause ive seen my buddies XJ pull out a ford f250

I think you could, ive seen someone on here pull a small storage buildin through the mud (of course that was a pic). But let someone else on here tell you to be confirmed.

 

Need to know more about the rig before can guess. More than just 94. Engine, auto or manual, stuff like that. I know it dosent have the tow package, but to be able to tell you what you need, need to know the rest.

 

1994 automatic. Sport 4x4.

 

get a trans cooler and a class 3 hitch and you'll be fine. also cooling upgrades dont hurt.

 

I know this will be a dumb question, but what is a tow package? It is just the wiring and extra coolant? It doesnt help the engine get stronger, so how does a tow package help a vechile?

 

it gives you trailer wiring, sometimes a hitch sometimes not and a tranny cooler

 

so getting a tow package on this cherokee will help me tow my 2700lb popup camper
