Default 14-Bolt vs. 8.8 w/Discs

http://honolulu.craigslist.org/oah/pts/2493364140.html

http://honolulu.craigslist.org/oah/pts/2569230131.html

How hard would it be to install either of these as my rear?

Which one is a better deal price wise?

Which one would you use?

Can I swap my 8.25 rear into the front even though it has the center pumpkin?

Can either the 14 or 8.8 be put in up front?

Thanks, don't really know much of anything about axles but saw these when I was searchin for jeepin stuff on CL!

ALSO: http://honolulu.craigslist.org/big/pts/2574040097.html

Anything there I should pick up? He looks like he's selling his Dana 44 and 60's for pretty cheap but like I said, don't know much of nothing about axles.

EDIT:
Right now I'm running 33's on 3.5" but come next spring I'm stepping up to something between 5-7" and 35's.

Personally i would keep looking. The 8.8 is a common swap for xj's, but out of an explorer not a mustang. I don't know if it would work or not, but the gears would need swapping if your running tires bigger than stock.

The 14 bolt is quite cumbersome for an xj, and he doesn't seem to know the condition. Could be trash.

Making any rear axle a front axle is a big job. I have seen a 14 bolt front axle but not practical since there's plenty of good options.

The 44 front isnt a good option since its a closed knuckle. Maybe the 44 and 9" bronco axles if there in good condition and your ok with going full width.

What is the difference between where I am now with my D30/8.25 vs full width?

Sorry, i was mistaken. The 44 and 9" are from an early bronco, which are not full width. They actual should fit quite well, if i'm thinking correctly. Btw, full width axles are axles from a fullsize vehicle. Such as a ford f-350, chevy silverado, etc. Our xj's are midsize vehicles.

I understand that they're from fullwidth vehicles, what I was really meaning to ask is the difference in width. i.e. how much wider will my stance be with fullwidth axels?

Depends on axle but usually 6-9" wider for full width. 14 bolt would be overkill for anything less than 38s and the mustang 8.8 is a 28 spline version most likely, narrower than stock and not a good swap.

Hit the junkyard and find a 97 up explorer 8.8.You will need spring perches and shock mounts welded on you can buy a kit like http://www.quadratec.com/products/12590_0251.htm and one of these for the drive shaft http://www.quadratec.com/products/12590_0254.htm
