Default '01 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 engine swap in '93?

Bought a 1993 Jeep Cherokee Country a couple weeks ago. After taking the head off, I found out the previous owner busted a piston in the 6th cylinder...he claimed it only needed new valve springs. Anyways, I just bought another 4.0 today, but out of a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Classic. Just wondering if you guys could help me and give me some tips for the swap. I noticed the intakes are slightly different, but I'm not sure what the differences are between the 2 engines. Thanks!

Tip 1: Don't overheat it. 2001 has the infamous 0331 head that is prone to cracking.

Another tip is that the 2001 engine uses coil packs instead of a distributor. You would need the 2001 computer to run the coil pack, and I am not sure what's involved in putting a distributor on a coil-pack engine. For some reason, I remember reading that there was something difficult about it.

Although the intake and exhaust manifolds are different, I don't think it really matters. I think they're all interchangeable and have the same bolt patterns and all that jazz.

Sensors from the 97+ engines also differ from those in the 96- engines. So unless you plan on swapping wiring harnesses or doing a lot of electrical work, you should recycle your old sensors and your old manifolds.

That's about all I can chime in on this. I don't recommend a 97+ engine in a 96- only because it sounds like a lot of work. I'm sure anything is possible though.

All the blocks are same and is interchangeable. Just reuse your head along with sensors, intake/exhaust manifolds and accessories. Including the distributor
