Default '01 - '11 Cherokees to maybe avoid? Looking to buy...

New to Jeeps here, but wanting to get a Cherokee as soon as I can sell my '02 F150. I've been researching, and they all seem to be great in the year models I am looking for ('01 - '11). So, can anyone here help me with any models that have specific issues? I mean things that keep coming up, etc. Maybe a configuration to avoid, V6, V8 or whatever. So far, they ALL seem to be bullet proof from what I have been reading.

Thanks a lot!

Fixed.

They didn't make Cherokees past 2001 in the U.S.

EDIT: Wait, I forgot we have to include this 2014 piece of crap in the name "Cherokee" to be semantically correct.

I think the 99+ are the ones with head issues? Either way can't go wrong!

I think your right and the older ones have less computer and crap on them but all XJ's are good that choice is up to you what year you want.

Your going to want to avoid all of the 02-11 Cherokees. Especially equipped with either the v6/v8. That's for sure...

Anyway... Lol a cherokee is a cherokee to me. I've had a 95/96/97/00 and loved them all.

this is all from my personal experience.

Grand cherokees from 01-04 (wj) are pretty good vehicles, they came with either the 4.0 i6 or the 4.7 ho motor

The 05-10 (wk) grand cherokees had either the 5.7 v8 hemi, a 4.7 v8, a 3.7 v6, or in the SRT-8 a 6.1 hemi, they have some reliability issues when they get higher in mileage (100k plus), and dont have the 300,000 mile reliability that the earlier jeeps are known for, are known for feeling cheap, and but are still good vehicles

The 2010-present (wk2) came out with a renewed sense of durability and commitment to the product and won many awards, it comes with one of three engines in the us a 3.6 L Pentastar V6, a 5.7 L Hemi V8, or a 6.4 L Hemi V8 (SRT-8)

all grand cherokees in this range were automatic jeeps with no options for a stick shift. if i can i would like to get either a low milage 02-04 wj or a 10-present wk2 when i upgrade from my 01 xj (square body cherokee that ran from 1984-2001 with very few changes)

Thanks a lot guys! Just what I need to know. I'm leaning toward a pre '01 I think now.
