I think I need to trim the flares a little differently, it looks a little strange with the flares sticking out about three inches past the corner returns. Might be just me being picky, but I'll play around with the stock flares before I replace them with black ones.

Yeah, I think it will hold up just fine. I used the same basic materials (3x5x3/16" instead of 3x6x3/16") for the bumpers on my old TJ, beat them repeatedly into rocks and only got some rock rash.
I considered 1/8" wall but due to the receiver being used as a recovery point I decided a little extra weight was worth the added strength.
