Default winch on non winch bumper

I got a 91 xj that I put an aftermarket bumper on the front. Only thing is there is no 2 inch receiver or winch mount. Could I just build a winch mount on the bumper. Also what's a good winch size to have

typically if you have some fab skills then yes you can. depends on the type of bumper. Do you have any pics to be able to tell better?

As far as the winch size it depends on how your jeep is set up an or plan to have your jeep set up. Would need more info on your set up to be able to give you a better idea.

Also, please take into consideration just because it is an after market bumper, does not mean it was built the hold up to winch use. A winch put strange lateral loads on a bumper, and if its not built thick enough it can fail, and possibly hurt someone. The frame tie in is the crutial part to look at...IMHO, 1/4" is not enough...but I have heard of people using 3/16...which is nuts to me...I built mine outta 3/8"....I love overkill on certain things...lol!! Make sure anything you weld to the bumper is done so by an experienced welder...

do you have a picture of how it attaches to your jeep? The type of attachment brackets will determine wether or not it would be good to put a winch on it and feel comfortable trusting it to pull with.

I don't have any pictures right now but it has the bolts holding it in on each side. The bolt holes were there from the stock bumper

Thats what I was thinking. If you plan on doing any winching you could definately do a kit like what DJKnightmare posted. If you would rather fab it yourself you need to make the mounting brackets attach at more points then just the stock mounting holes. So in esscense the brackets that you use need to extend farther down the frame rail and attach at more points to ensure safe winching.

it needs to be tied in a **** ton more in order to be safe to add a winch to.
There are plenty of companies that make frame tie in kits that can be added pretty easily with some fab skills.
It may be a more viable option to sell the bumper and save for a winch bumper?

I definately agree. You need a much larger attachment for your bumper to be safe to winch from. So the next question would be wether you want to get a new bumper or would like to do some fab work?

If you plan on adding a winch plate onto that bumper you should get some tie-in's like the others have stated.

This is what my frame tie-in's look like on my winch bumper my bulkhead had plates sandwiching it also.
