This made me LOL...I so needed that today
Anywho, what I dealt with today
Overall view...
So, the frame for the body cracked in half, and had a previous repair already...cut out the fish plate that was cracked in half, and cleaned it up to re-fish plate it...
Other side, you can see the cracks a bit better here...you can also see where we had to cut the mount for the pivot pin for the truck body...the piece you see the cracks coming from was also scarfed out, and will be replaced with a new piece...both sides will be reinforced, more pics to come
Also, brought home my new-to-me Lincoln tombstone...old school, completely refurbed, and warrantied...gonna go get some angle and casters this weekend to make a little rolling stand for it...more to come there as well, LOL

Just catching up on this thread. For the newbs looking to get started the Hobart 140 can't be beat for the price. Bought mine on CL for $400 with a small bottle. Built me a cart for it and stepped up to a larger bottle and couldn't be happier. For most DIY guys something like that is all you will likely need.
"I welded up my DBO DIY"
with mine on a regular 110v household outlet, and after killing a Nissan that pulled out in front of me, taking out two deer, a metal 55 gallon drum and countless small trees the welds have held up perfectly. I'm not a certified welder by any means, my dad taught me how to run a bead with a Miller thunderbolt that I still have today when I was about 12. I have been doing professional shaft repair welds, and fab for near 20 years and am considered to be one of the best in my area. The key to good welds is info and practice, practice, practice, practice x10. Lol. Oxy welding, as well as manual machinig is a quickly dying art.It sucks but also makes us that are able to do it more valuable. The more experience you get with it the more you realize that it truly is an art. Get out there and burn, turn, and cut some metal. The only limit to your skill is your determination.

Speaking of old AC Tombstones; I had that exact same one. My father bought it seriously well used in about 1985 at a bankruptcy auction. I built a million things with it and after building a 35' all-adjustable sailboat trailer with it - it was just sitting out in my messy carport behind some piled up mess. I'm sure I hadn't used in for a year when I wanted to add some braces to a willow-y Home-Depot-type trailer.
I had to climb over a bunch of stuff to get to the switch on the welder and was actually balancing on some rocking and rolling pipe when I saw that the leads were just 1" stubs - some SOB lowlife had stolen the leads. You know how it is: I sort of frozen there with my hand an inch from the switch - you can't believe your eyes at first. <g>
So I straighten up to better balance on the rolling pipes under my feet and then go to step/climb/stumble back out of my junk sitting everywhere. As I do I start to laugh because I look down and see that the pipes I am fighting to stay standing upright on are . . . . 20' lengths of new 1 5/8" copper AND what I am struggling my way back over are a half dozen 5 gallon buckets of copper fittings. <g>
So this moronic crackhead had stepped and climbed over literally Buckets of copper and then stood and stumbled and probably fallen over trying to balance on a dozen Lengths of clean L copper - just to cut off 15 or 20 feet of welding lead that he still had to strip the rubber jacket off of. <g>
What a friggin retart! Hell; I'm surprised he's smart enough to even Be a useless crackhead. <g>
But it all worked out. I gave the old lead-less Tombstone to my scrap guy and a few weeks later bought a new looking (it was still bolted to the crate bottom it had been shipped with) AC/DC Tombstone for $150. at a yard sale. After I bought it the heirs just gave me every other welding thing that was sitting there in the garage. They said nobody was interested in any of it - all the stained glass and suncatchers went fast though. <g>

Lol you sound like you must be a plumber. Well I am also a plumber and I've got an even better crack head story for you from work.
Sorry this is gunna be really off topic but I cant turn down a chance to share a story like this.
It all started when one of our guys vans shot a rod out the side of the block. So we had it towed to the shop to clean it out. Well being such short notice we didn't have any space in the shop to park a van in over night so we had to leave it outside. Keep in mind our shop is in down town Portland Oregon. Tweekers everywhere! This was a service van so on the ladder rack were 10ft sticks of type L copper in every size up to 3in. Over night a tweeker paid a visit and broke the drivers side rear window. We watched him on the security cam the next day and he stole nothing but a bag of 3/4" wirsbo rings which we found in the parking lot the next day. So we cleared out an area and parked the van inside for the next night. So night two, the same tweeker, pulled an extension ladder off of the top of a connex we have out back and broke into the second story window of our shop. (all caught on security cam) He then found his way into the shop and went back to the same van. To get to this van he had to walk past shelves loaded in thousands of dollars worth of copper fittings and racks full of every size copper pipe you can imagine, and some of this pipe was even cleaned, capped, and bagged for med-gas work so it was shiny to the point I would think would be irresistible to a crack head. But no he walked right past it and broke the passenger side rear window. Yes the PASSENGER rear window, like the one right next to the window he had broken the night before!!! To make it worse this time the doors were even unlocked!!! He then crawled in and pulled a ridgid threading machine out. Not a small one, like one of the big suckers that's on a tripod. I'm not sure how he even got it out the back window lol. Anyway he then crawled in and slept a few hours before crawling out and escaping before anyone showed up for work. Best part is he left his back pack and the threading machine he was trying to steal sitting outside the van lol! And I guess he sliced him self up pretty bad crawling in and out of the windows cuz he smeared blood all over the walls on his way back up to the office to his escape ladder. Its just sad that people can get themselves that messed up with dugs. Moral of the story, drugs are bad ummmkay lol.
