yeah I am not sure there is anywhere to actually mount those. The only thing behind the window is a little 1/4" lip.

I've never used them either. I've seen them used and that was the first thing to come to mind. Also, your hatch is fiberglass just like mine. No welding there either. Oh well, I tried.

I'd use the hinges that mount on the top out side of a trucks shell, & shocks like the ones that hold up the xjs lift gate but to hold the glass up. U might only need. Dude the JY is gonna be ur best friend!

This is the route I will probably be taking. It seems the most straight forward.

What about putting two fixed slots on the bottom and two latches on top so you can place bottom in first and lacth the top quick and easy.

So i had the same problem only my 2dr side window was shot out with a bb gun by a buddy of mine on a drunk night, i decided to put some plexy glass in there but i got it to the excate tint of the factory window and then i used a dremal and shaved it down and fit it right into the seal, then i sealed it up using clear silacone, works wonders and cant even really tell unless you right up on it. its strong too, only bad thing is when i drive down the free way some times it will bow in so i wish i would have gotten it a lil thicker but oh well, it only cost me 50 bucks compared to 300 for as new window set.

If any more of the back windows get smashed out I will have 3 plexi windows that I can remove for summer and beach driving.

After I get the technique down for making hinged/removable windows that is.

Another idea I had was using this kind of strap/clasp. Remember rollerblades they had that plastic ratchet type closure.
If I could some how connect one half to the inside metal and the other part to the plexi it would pull tight against a rubber seal and be easy to pop off when I wanted them out.

However once again the problems lies in finding that type of connector.

Just letting everyone know I am still going to try this out. Just a matter of getting the money for the materials and seeing what kind of connector options I have locally. I also need to buy a drill to be able to get this done.

I will make sure to post pictures and things when I manage to start putting it all together.

ive been wanting to do this for some time now , the straps are a good idea , but i was thinking more along the lines of a pin system like they use on race car hoods , drill a hole thru the plexi and glue a pin thru it and make a tab on the gate itself with a hole drilled , allowing the pins on the window to go thru the tabs and secrure from the inside with a cotter pin

Yeah I thought of something like that too but I would want my plexi window to sit flush against the inside lip that the old window use to sit on and that inside lip is only about 1/4th of an inch, not big enough to really secure any kind of pin to.

Might end up at home depot today depending on how busy it is, might be able to look around for different kinds of fasteners then.

I have not fully decided if I want a lift window or a completely removable. Probably depends on what I can find easiest lol.

If you come up with something that works and the connectors are easily found let me know! lol.

i think you should have enough room to fab up a bracket , weld something to the excisitng lip and have it pin in just next to the stock lip , , i mean in threory that should work , but who knows what will really be best untill you actually try something , let me know what you come up with because im looking to do this as well by summer

Oh I am sure for someone with a welder and such it should be pretty easy to fab something up but for now all I have are hand tools so I have to find something that can just be bolted in or screwed in. Didnt have much time at all over the past few days so I didnt make it up to Home Depot or anywhere else to even try to look for fittings. I have monday off so Ill try then lol.

Yep that is true I could walk around there for hours and not even buy anything but come back with lots of ideas lol. I couldnt seem to find any sheet metal at mine though all lumber. No square tube or condit either all round. Kind of maddening when you go in WITH an idea and cant find the stuff you were looking for. I hope the plexi glass sheets they have are big enough. I have not measured the window opening yet lol.

they have square tubeing here and some round and also flat , but i never seen sheet metel check the hardware isle where all the nuts and bolts and stuff is , if you need odd and end sheet metal for small stuff go up to a local auto body shop and grab an old hood or something , they wont mind , i work in a body shop and the amount of scrap is unreal , you might even be able to find other handy stuff in there scrap pile too
