Agree on seal or Ported. Here is a little insight. I used to be really big into audio. I have sense learned my lesson as I am about deaf lol. Ported boxes require a lot of space approx double the size needed for a sealed box. But the sound quality will suffer from being sealed. Obviously in this situation a sealed box would be necessary for this set up.

Here is one of the last systems I built. It was incredibly loud. I built my box from specs from kicker on the around of air space required for the Kicker Comps to preform at their peak. There is a fine art to car audio. Some people go for looks and some go for quality. A select few go for both.

This system hit 145.9 spl at the last competition I was in.

Most go for useless noise. Maybe I'm just older now but sound quality comes before anything to me. In a nut shell sealed will give you sharper bass and requires less power to do it. On the down side they cannot hit as low as a ported enclosure and are far harder to tune properly, once its built you are stuck with it. Ported enclosures are easy to tune, hit lower, and are almost infinatly tunable. But at the cost of needing far more power and far more sq ft.

The reason why your plastic is hurting this is because it is flexing like mad. When it flexes it changes the sq ft inside the enclosure, causing sound waves to distort, and frequency levels to wildly change back and forth. I had to add tons of bracing to an enclosure made from 1 inch MDF, in my younger days, because it was flexing to the point where it started cracking.

The last set-up I had in my truck before I gave it up hit 154.8. One sub and one amp in a crappy box that I had built for a JL15W0.

Memphis Mojo M3 15" quad coil wired to 1ohm.
Memphis Mojo Class D 2KW.

Now, I enjoy Memphis components on a cheap 4 channel amp and a bottom line Kenwood HU.

That never happened. You do realize you just stated a number that was higher than the winner of the world championship right?

154.8 my ***.

The 2002 record, set by a German team of secretive audio engineers, was 177.6 dB.just saying

You're right. Typo. It should have said 144.8.

But the world record was 154.8 like 8 years ago. It's far beyond that now.

...it's the same scale.

The most I was able to get it to do in the correct enclosure was 147.6 dB.

Gotcha. Been many years since I have beem into audio on that level. I dont have a sub in any of my rides now. I do still go for quality of sound but can't handle loud anymore.

SPL stands for Sound Pressure Level. which is measured in Decibels, or DB. DBl is Decibel level.

you cant really be THAT into car audio and not know that.

Its been years since I've even thought about car audio. Back then I could quote all of that stuff. I replaced sub boxes with car seats lol.

I completely agree with all of you and I knew it wasn't gunna be the best quality going into it... But it is surprisingly better than I thought... I'm not looking for competition sound quality... I did that on my Jett's and went through farrr too many back windows haha.... I just wated a little something to take the bass out of my speakers and you can barely tell I have a sub... I'm very happy with it... If I want sound quality ill set up all the Equiptment from work ( I've done it camping with a generator to have some fun haha) crazy that you guys were pullin off 140+ though

Even if all you want is a little extra bump I'd close the back of the box in. I'm sure you still have enough material laying around and it wouldn't take but a little bit to do it. The sub will be MUCH happier with you for it. I doubt it's going to last very long in that environment. It won't be long and you'll be buying a new sub if you turn it up.

Yea I gt plenty left... This was kind of a preliminary build... Ill prob add a back when I blow my sub... I paid the 24 bucks for the full warranty so I can purposely stab my sub with a knife and they replace it no questions asked
