Default Upper Rear shock mounts. Help Please!

I knew I was in trouble when I saw 2 square nuts @ the top of one of the rear shock mount bolts. The other broke. So Whatever fix I do will be both sides to keep it equal. I have looked @ the previous threads. My main question is cant you just drill from the bottom through to the floorboard? Using Huge washers and lock washers too? If I do that as a temoprary fix Cant I come back with a 3/16 or 1/4 inch plate on the floorboard and "sandwich" it with the right bolts? Why all the fuss about putting the nut below the floor? PLEASE HELP! I have to drive her Mon!

Well I've delt with this in a few of my jeeps but the easy way to do it is weld your shock to the top lol although it sounds bad it has worked just fine for me for about a year so far. If you don't want to do that, I have drilled it out before, and in the space between the floorboard and the mount you can fit your fingers in to thread a nut on a bolt..... make sense??

Default It sounds like option 2 is for me.

I havent gotten around to getting a long enough cord for my MIG. I dont have a air chisel. So I guess a BFH and taper punch are in my future. All I have to do is knock the welded nuts out to be able to fish the new bolts through. Does it sound like Im on the right track?

you're on the right track. beat em out and fish in the new bolts. or do like I did and drill through the floor. makes it alot easier to get to them a 9/16" hole in the floor should give you enough room to slide the bolt in and get a socket on it.

Drilling is the way I went aswell, but good thinking on making the hole big enough for a socket!

i had to knock all the nuts out with a chisel and a hammer. took a little while but i got them all and then i tied new bolts with washers with a small cord and fished them through the holes.

I dont see why you couldnt then Hurculine your rear floorboard. I'm kinda in a bine right now but its my lower rear shock mount that snaped completely off my ford 8.8.

Default Had fun with rear shock bolts today.

Thats what I did. And I used 2 washers inside. A flat and fender washer. Then a flat washer and Nylock on the outside. My neighbor happend to have Air. I used his impact and chisle after I cut the heads off with my Dremel. It done right! i was dealing with3 different screws and bolts on the old shocks. The second I saw a screw I knew to do them all. There was 1 factory bolt that was saveable. Now its a 5/16 X1 Im going to sleep better now.
