This is something i have always wanted to do and today i found this in the scrap hopper at work! i had to power sand as much of the nasty white paint as i could. this is as far as i got tonite but tommorow i will find a way to fasten the inserts into the grill (any ideas appreciated).

keep an eye on your thermostat for awhile, that expanded looks like it 60% open, meaning 40% of the surface area is closed. Not trying to talk **** at all, just a warning, I almost toasted a dodge Dakota with a custom grille once

 

paint it a darker red then your truck to contrast, or black to match the grill

 

I did something similar...i used apoxy and some of the mesh to hold it in...did mine from the inside too...ill take a pic tomarro for ya

well i really liked the idea of painting it red so i did that after work today, and i used a clear silicone caulking glue to hold them in. This is how it turned out, pretty soon i want to make a bumper to match CANT BEAT FREE $0.00

At first i thought i was gonna hate it but honestly i think it looks FING sick! I have an extra grille i busted one of the little bars in when a recovery strap snapped back i might try it but white for my white zj!

one thing i didnt like about what i did was i cant put the two screws into the front of the grill so ive only got the two on top it doesnt flop in the wind or any thing just the little things that erritate me

 

I thought that it would look pretty bad but once you got it all together I really do like it. I may have to do something like it once I get a grill first.

very cool. I thought initially you removed the grill blades then I figured out you installed the mesh over them. Good support for the inserts. looks cool.

 

Looks good. I did something similar on my xj, but I used the wire mesh that they put down before they lay concrete or grout for tiles... its a little thinner but it worked. I also used it to make a lower grill insert on my accord. For bot I was able to bend it around the inside of the grill/bumper to hold it in place. I really like the clear caulk idea though. Hope it works out for ya...
