Anyone have any ways of doing this and making it look real nice? I've always wanted one. once i get it done i'll start making the roof rack so they meet up perfectly.

I've often thought about this as well. The only thing I can think of is to cut the hole larger than the actual sunroof. Weld in the ridges so that they are flat vertically. Then weld in a flat piece to make the hole the right size.

if your jeep is for mudding only ...or you just don't care just take a reciprocating saw to the roof and put a whole in it.

Some XJ's actually had pop-up sunroofs installed from the factory, if you could find one of these you could probably make it work in yours. Plus there are tons of aftermarket companys that make sunroofs for any application. I'm a fan of slidingragtops.com I really wanna do what they did to the XJ on their site. It looks awesome. You'd probably need a cage though.

My '00 XJ has a power factory sunroof. It was optioned out really weird... steel wheels, no CD but has a sunroof. Anyway, it's a pretty nice piece, if you could score one I can't see the installation being that bad. I've only seen my sunroof in 2 XJs though.

I just got one out of a friends xj he was junking. Its one of the universal styles, it just clamps in from the inside and there's a ridge on the outside. You apply sealant and then sandwich it together, His never leaked. It pops up at an angle and it comes off totally.

Damn guys thanks that Rag top deal looks cool bad thing is i want a Roof Rack as well. and it's mostly a trail rig i do like light crawling when needed crossing streams and mud holes but i don't go out looking for mud holes n stuff. I mostly want a sun roof for the breez and to look at the stars and stuff at night.

I would think the rag top would drastically reduce the structural rigidity of the vehicle, with it being so large. I suppose if all your vehicle did was run on pavement it would be okay, but I'd be worried what sort of stresses a rough trail would put on it.
