Default Stubby Bumper

Well, got tired of the crappy stock front bumper so I cut up my old sliders and got to work.

I used 2"x4"x1/4" box tube for the main bumper. Its cut to the exact width of the front of the frame on the outside edge. Then i cut some 1/4" plate to the contour of the frame rails in the front. It is 16" long and ~5" wide in the front.

The box tube bumps up against the front of the frame rails. I mocked up the mounts and the box tube then tacked it in. Removed everything and then burned it in.

I also cut out the bottom half of the front crossmember because it hung lower than the bumper.

Cut a piece of 1/4" wall 1"ID round tube to fit under the box tube mostly for aesthetics but also to hide the bottom of the frame rails.

I've still got to add some tube to the sides to follow the contour of the front clip under the headlights. I've also got to add Dring tabs for recovery and a receiver for a hitch.

Its the shorter one on the right in the first pic.

Looks good, with Drings in the front you will have a nice set up. I also like the green you chose for the bumper.

The d-rings themselves, I would personally just buy. IMO, would take too much time/energy to make your own and time = money in my eyes. As for D-ring mounts, that is up to you. If you have material no reason you cannot cut/drill your own.

I like yours for the 97+ body style better though. Fits with the bodylines and such.

You could also do as I did and put a hitch in the front instead of the Drings. I run with a pintle set up and use it as my attachment point. Its worked great so far! All you would have to do is torch a hole in the center of the bumper and weld a hitch in there. Just another idea.

Yea sry i should've specified. I've got dring's i just need mounts but i'd have to buy the 1/2" or 1" plate then cut it out so idk.

Yea im going to add a hitch but it won't be used for recovery, it'll be to haul my hitch rack cargo carrier thingy.

Little tube work on the bumper. Also ordered dring tabs from JCR Offroad for $27.

Probably going to triangulate the ends with more tube but didn't have time to mess with it today.
