It's not stock. It's a brace to connect the frame rail to the 2"x6" rocker. I bought extra 2"x6" steel tube so that I could cut it up and make 2 angle braces for each side.
back to this again, would 2x5 tubing be to short? I dont really want it to stick out from the doors to much
2"x5" would probably be OK. If you need to "bump" it out bit to get the look you want you could just weld a strip of flat bar along the back side of it (say 0.25"). I've never used or even seen 2"x5" but I imagine it's available.
Ive done this with 2x4 and with 2x6. pictured is 2x6 and i will always suggest 2x6 after doing both within 2 -weeks of each other. The exposed metal is minimal enough not to bother you getting in the vehicle and also doesn't stick out far enough to be an obtrusive sight.
So so glad i didnt jump in the wagon and do 4 or 6" mine are 2x8x3/16 havent done tie in yet. These dont ever hinder me. They creat door and side protection from rocks and trees and provide a pivoting sliding point that sheet metal door sides cant provide Its okay that ots an old thread.
I will say 8" is a long ways for 3/16" to span. Ive noticed some gouges from rocks and a few dents.
I may burn a 1/4" skid plate under them before denting gets worse but I may leave it to cause that eats up alot of my plate..
either way this 8" wide increases the offroad ability not one bit worried about walking through the rocks dragging everything but sheet metal. Or dropping over trees like pictured.
I've also found its handy with hilift a normal 2x4 rail puts the high lift right into the door.
All all sizes are better than just sheet metal

I’m new here, been having hard time finding active thread to deal with trailer hitch. My unibody is pretty awesome right up until you get to where trailer hitch is mounted. I pulled rear end today to install lift and rear disc brake kit. Pulled hitch because is shot, and rear bumper to gain access to shackle bolts. Been penetrating oil everything for few days now. Knock on wood, only ones I’ve snapped are all four upper shock bolts. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas to beef either nut rail or rear of frame?
By the way my rockers aren’t gone but ideas above got me thinking when time comes.......
Don't be scared to start a new thread. Old threads are old and the search engines are a hassle at best.
some guys ***** but ffffm they probably dont even have jeeps.
