shifter enclosure thing console
there wasn't one and didn't want to buy new one or leave the thing exposed, so found scrap (crappy plywood) and did a few cuts, cut a hole for the mirror controller. and i love the constructive criticism from fellow jeep owners

Hey its a jeep. It doesn't have to be pretty as long as it does the job. Best part is you did the work.
Id do like has been said and sand down the sawn edges and cover in carpet

That's right dude - props to you for taking the initiative to build something from scratch. With a little finish work on it it will look fine. Keep working at it!

when i got my xj it didnt come with an center console either thats a nice simple thing to do for one nut i was at the junkyard and pulled a good one out for 20 bucks and once i mounted the brackets the console fit beautifully maybe if you have a local JY around you could go in find an xj and pull a real one for cheap but i give you props for your creativity

For the ultimate custom definately genuine saskatchewan seal skin. In light of species endangerment definately the light filler application before paint or the speaker material would work great and it's cheap. Also cheap is the drawer liner rubber perf mats. Good in toolboxes and I see it cheap at the dollar stores. What else do you have around the house that can be put into use.
yea carpet for sure would be good but i would counter sink the screws cause they will show through the carpet if you don't if you were gonna do metal there would be no need for the wood under it
I say custom is custom so if you are workin on your jeep and you are proud of what you made its all good

I like it! Good job, customizing the Jeeps is half the fun of owning them!
I'm considering bending something out of some sheetmetal for mine.
The stock rattly, broken stock console came out of mine in pieces and I'm going for the minimalistic interior on this one.
