roof rails w/ fold down light bar
I made some gutter mount roof rails a while ago I finally mounted them on my cherokee but Ive always wanted to have l a light bar but I didnt want it to interfere when I throw my canoe on top. The light bar part was made from a piece of 1/8" angled steel, (2) 2.5" pieces of 1" emt, 3 small pieces of 1/8" steel plate, (2)1/2" bolts with nuts, and (1) 1/4" bolt with nut.
This is what the mount looked like before I made the light bar.
This is the front bar with the mount for the light bar welded on.
The nut for the 1/2" bolt fit perfectly in the 1" emt tubing. welded the nut into the tube and welded the emt to the angled steel.
Did the same for the other side but I used a hole saw to cut out a piece of steel to use to lock the bar in place
Painted and installed in the folded position.
And in the normal position. Let me know what you think. I cant wait to get some lights!

If you look at the last 2 pictures you will see a 1/4" bolt. That is what locks it in the upright or folded positions(down for upright and towards the rear for folded). Then the main bolts on each side are also tightened to hold it in place.

Don't really know how much it cost. To make the bar I used mostly scrap I had laying around. I could do a write up on how I did the pivots. It really wasn't hard to do but you do need to know how to weld some. I'm not a very good welder but it came out pretty decent.

Very cool idea! Alot of the Jeepspeed guys run a setup like this for night racing in the desert... They make them so the whole light bar is adjustable with a "tie rod" in the back and quick pins on both sides. Only takes about 30 seconds to put on or take off.

I made the gutter mounts myself (there was some trial and error). There are 2 bolts that are used to tighten it down a long on and a short one. Just finger tighten everything first then I tightened the longer bolt so it pushes into the top of the gutter and pulls from the bottom. Then the second bolt (shorter one) gets tightened to hold everything in place. Its been on there for a while now and hasn't moved a bit.
