Default Roll Cage build.

Since I have to replace my floor anyway I decided this would be the best time to install a roll cage while everything is out. Had my roommate bend the tube for me at his shop and i'm just kinda building as I go. My welds are not pretty on this but they are strong and thats the more important part when it comes to cages. Comment away...

Its 1.5 inch .120 wall. HREW. Thank you!

And I know DOM is stronger but this isn't a race car and I'm not planning on flopping it at more then a few miles an hour. And either way its much better then not having any cage at all.

Absolutely nothing wrong with HREW, in fact ignore people who tell you different.

Looks like a great start, can't wait to see it all done

thats 100% false. sure, HREW is just as strong 90% of the time, and in this application, is more than adequate. but put a dent in it, and it's structure is compromised a great deal. DOM is just as strong dented as it is not, and when its a few bucks a foot difference, i'll be glad i spent the money if my jeep takes a tumble.

And thats exactly what I'm talking about. I don't want this to turn into a "what is better tubing thread". I weighed the pros and cons, decided that HREW was right for my application and went with it. It will work just fine as is in my jeep and if things change down the road I will worry about it then.

yup, two of my buddys are running HREW cages, one is internal, one hybrid. both do the job well.

how are you tying the cage into the unibody? any plans?

You don't think having the b-pillars straight like that will interfere with the driver and passenger seat?

Mine is contoured to the stock b-pillar and irritates me cause it's close to the seat. Yours is a good 4 inches closer...

I think you'd like it better with a bend in it there.

You can see here how it's contoured.

It will be plated into the unibody and then tied into all the pillars too to stiffen everything up.

I think I will be able to get by the way it is. I'm making custom seat brackets anyway so I can move them around a little. And its stronger with a straight bar instead of bend tube. I really like the way yours looks behind that seat though.

We need to see a lot more triangulation for that cage to be effective. Right now, not so much......but a decent base.
