I know this is an old thread but did you ever put some flat metal on the bottom side to make it smooth and to stop from having areas to hang up on? If so, do you have any pictures you could post? Thanks.

I went on 2 trip without the metal and had no issues, I still plan on doing but have not yet.

I'm going to do this to my '97. I love the way it turned out on yours.

So how many inches does the 2x6 stick out? Looks like about 2 inches... I'm drying to figure what size to do on mine. And you have the 2x6 butted up the the frame or is there a space between?

Hello

It is tight to the inner sheet metal.
There is really no "Frame" on a unibody.
Once the outer rocker panel is cut away the 2x6 is tight to the inner Rocker structure and welded the entire length.

Don't know how far it sticks out.

3/16 is the minimum I would run. I've dented mine in two places from hitting rocks. .150 wouldn't like that at all.

I did the 1/8" to save some weight.
But there is a 2X3" piece of white oak, pounded in with a sledge hammer,
running down the center of the 2X6.
There is no way the 2x6" is denting.
