Rock sliders/steps
After reading posts and looking at pictures, I figured it was time to make some rocksliders/steps. I made some mounts, ground off the undercoat and measured out where the mounts should be. The mounts are made of 4"x4"x1/4" angle iron drilled and tapped for 10 mm bolts with the same size of angle iron that bolts to the mount for the sliders. I know---kind of confusing but you'll see in the pictures what I'm talking about. I welded the mounts to the unibody, drilled through the unibody through the tapped holes, and tapped the holes in the unibody so the mounting bolts go right through the mounts and right into the unibody. Sprayed some undercoat on them and let it dry.
Bolted the base plates to the mounts, measured, cut and tacked the 1-1/2" h.s.s. slider arms to the base plates.
Measured and cut the pinch seam mounting plates. I used 3/16 plate 12" long for these.
Installed the pinch seam mount plates onto the slider arms, vise-gripped it to the pinch seam and welded them to the arms. Drilled holes through the pinch seam for the mounting bolts.
Measured and cut the slider out of 2" h.s.s. Angled the ends to match the fender flares and capped the ends of the h.s.s. I made some elbows and steps out of 1 - 1/2" h.s.s. so I tacked those onto the slider.
Finished welding and got them coated with box liner. Box lined the bottom of the Jeep and reinstalled the sliders. A little easier for the wife to get into it now and should be able to take a few rocks or logs with minimal damage!

After seeing how thin that Unibody is, I wasn't too keen on the idea of using self-tappers to hold the arms on. Figured it would be a little tougher welding something to the Unibody and then bolting right through it. I guess time will tell!

Metal in Canada is pricey. I bought full lengths of h.s.s. to save the cutting fee and I had the angle iron laying under my bench so used that instead of buying new. For a full length of 2" and 1-1/2" h.s.s. and a length of 1/2" sch40 pipe (for a different job) cost $160.
