Nice write up. Crazy how much mud and dirt ends up down in the corner huh! I think I had about a good inch of dirt/rust down there.

Nice write-up. I just chopped mine all the way off and then welded in some new pieces while I had my floor out. Took way too long. Looks like this is a much easier route to go.

I think I'm going to box that all in. I had the same thought. Just cut the ear off the side and square it off. I plan on finishing mine this weekend, I'll take pictures.

I haven't been active on here lately, but thanks for all the compliments! Really glad this write-up has served it's purpose & has been useful to all those who've needed it. Appreciate the positive feedback & pics of different rigs with this mod.
For those wondering about welding that area, it's definitely an alternative to riveting, or even folding anything. If I had a welder then (I do now... HOBART 190 FTW!!), I would've welded in some plate. Only thing to keep in mind, is not to burn through the thin body panels.
HS00XJ, to me it seems to be somewhat reinforcing to the shackle box, & since most bumpers cover that area, I wouldn't mess with it.
I'll be modeling my bumper build after this one...
IMO, THE best looking, built, & strongest bumper I've seen.
