Rear Bumper/tire swing for 98Plum Crazy
Didnt get a full step by step but ill give a little run down
All hardware is grade 8 all box tubing is 3/16 and all round tube is .120 wall
Started with the 4x2 tube that will run inside the unibody to both stiffen the rear and act as a nut strip.
(mine are shown below as his are still in my jeep for fit up thats why there only one bolt hole instead of 2)
passenger side
driver side
both are cut out to go around the leaf spring shackle bolt and the driver side is cut to fit around the gas fill sleeve that runs inside the unibody you cannt really see itll ill take more picks but the bottom of both tubes (which is facing up in the first 2 pics) have nuts welded inside them in 5 locations on each side where you can tie in an after market hitch or a tank skid
These tubes come out of the unibody enough to tie into the bumper mount in 2 locations
the mounts are 5x3 tube we cut and narrowed so the inside dimension was 2-1/8 to fit over the 4x2 the cross member is 2x3 and the hitch receiver i picked up at farm and fleet D-ring tabs are 3/4x2
we still have to add the 1/4" plate for using the factory locations
shown here
Thats my bumper on the ground the box tubing will not stick out the back of the round tubes like it is shown on mine as i have not had time to get back to mine in awhile
and on my jeep for fit
the main frame with hitch receiver is built and the tire swing is mostly built ill get some pics tomorrow as i do some clean up on it but we are still waiting on the tube to come in for the main bumper which i should get monday so itll be finished next week

I didnt get as many pics as i would of liked and i didnt get finished as i was hoping to do.
Keith decided to get into a fight with the grinder. Guess who won.
*****WARNING*****
A grinder may cause serious harm when used improperly.
Always use the proper size disk.
DO NOT use a 7" cut off wheel on a 4-1/2" grinder it doesnt leave much room for your hand and one slip could have you wasting a good part of your day.
So use common sence and dont waste an hour per stitch at a damn hospital where no one is in a hurry to get to you.
Anyway on to the pics
incomplete but with 30" tire hanging

i forgot to add that is a knu-vice 2001 clamp rated for 2000 #'s we cut the mounting ears off and welded it right to the tube for a cleaner look and theres no self tapers to strip out or allow water into the inside of the tubes
the funny tab on the front of the clamp was added and drilled for a 1/4" lynch pin as a safety so the gate dont just bounce open
the tire mounting plate is drilled for 5 on 4.5" , 5 on 5" and 5 on 5.5"
the stop to prevent the carrier breaking a light or swinging into the jeep is a weld on pipe cap which is a little different then normal use
10 bolts to the unibody
8 to factory locations
4 bolts through the bumper into the tie ins
where all provided
along with the bearings for the spindle and hub
hopefully Plum will get it painted and mounted soon so the true end result can be seen

The bumper looks great!... Awesome job on the design of the the tire carrier! I can't wait to see pictures of it painted and mounted on the Jeep.

thanks guys i enjoy building these and i havent seen any others like it
they are for sale but they are kinda pricey to build however still cheaper then others with a tire carrier
they do allow room for a high lift mount to be added and jerry can holder is in the works
along with a matching front winch bumper
