Off Road Trailer

Off Road Trailer
I got a free Coleman popup camper, and stripped it down to use the frame for this project. For paint I used Rustolium rusty metal primer and Rustolium stops rust paint.
The inside smelled as bad as the outside looks.
Ever wonder how those cranks worked to open a popup?
Got it stripped down to the base frame, but it was still too wide.
So I cut 4" out of the center...
...and welded it back together.
Then I added bracing with the left over frame parts, and added a 2" front reciever.
Mock-Up of a larger axle tube and heavier spindles. The final set-up was spring over.
More axle and ride hight mock-up
$340 in steel. 14ga sheet, 2" angle, and 2" C channel
Welding the deck to a pre painted frame.
Some of the tools I used to try to keep it square.
I used the 2" angle to reinforce the corners.
Final measurements corner to corner were only 1/8" different.
Pintle hook and leunett ring on the front. Spring under setup.
Wiring, lights, and final paint left to do.
The only thing left to do in this pic is fab the tire mount.
It handled Tight Trails, Mud, and Rocks well.
I can't tell its behind me when on the road.
Over All I'm Very Pleased With My Trailer.
I have about $500 invested and WAY too many hours.

That trailer is SWEET! The only thing it needs now is a roof-top tent. I'd like a trailer that is just large enough to stick an ATV in, but have the tent on top. Nice fab work! Looks really clean.

Good looking trailer man. The only improvement I would do is throw the same rear axle you have in you're jeep under the trailer. You'd have spare parts and not have to worry about it taking up any more space.

Only problem is I already have my Spare axle under the Jeep. I bent the old housing.
