20 y/o oak off a tractor trailer used to haul heavy equipment. Milled from 2" to 1" something. Steele frame, alum. brackets.

I like it. I have the ZJ backseat in mine, that would bring it up even with the seat folded down.

Ty! The planks themselves were light and fairly dry during instal. All together roughly 30-35 lbs?

The cuts are flush w/ the stock backrest. I'd be afraid the upgrade would leave a gap. I'm considering building wooden seat in back like a park bench or Adirondack.

Looks really nice, excellent job!

I have always wanted to do this but at the same time I like having carpet because it keeps things from sliding around too easily in the cargo area

Torn because this looks so nice

Dissecting good flat oak wood shipping pallet boards might be a good source wood for this.... They are thin enough to just pull the carpet and screw it in... Toss a piece of see through carpet "runner" in on top when you need stuff to "stay put".
