noob welder needs some heat warp help.
Ok, Im a stone cold noob welder. I took a beginning welding class so I have a basic idea but it was just that.. the basics. anyways I took my new found lack of skill and built a rear bumper(need new card reader to load pics). For maximum strength i cut out the pockets in the back of my rig and sleeved about 18" into the frame rails with 2x4 1/4" (I have lots of 1/4). not thinking about the heat involved (noob move) the very ends of the "legs" into the rails warped inwards towards each other at the ends about 1/2" between the 2 of them. now Im stuck with a bumper thats a fuzz too narrow and a **** to put on without a BFH and hi-lift.
My question is: which side of the leg do I apply heat to to make the leg warp back out/open? I have OA torches so making enough heat isnt a problem, i just dont want to F' it up worse by guessing.

id probably heat it and knock it with a hammer tryin to get metal to warp the way you want it will take some talent it can be done and i dont doubt you but you might just leave it tight that way you never have to worry about it gettin any play in it i know guys that make them 1/8" to small and push them on between a tree and the jeep
Perhaps, Its just possible that I dont need my ego stroked enough to post pics of a half finished project?
Makes sense to me, it's something to think about. Thanks.
