I need to do that too. My seal started leaking after I badly overheated it when I blew a freeze plug. ANd actually, I work banker's hours, but I'm up all hours of the night anyways Originally Posted by Basslicks

Totally understand about putting off projects to get the jeep right though. I have numerous projects on hold for the most recent surge to perform neglected maintenance projects. Most recently the rear main seal - hoping to not have to do that again for another 200k.

I've actually been considering FST's new 242 lever to get me by until I'm ready to put my 231 one. I'm tired of these homemade contraptions I've come up with to extend the lever, haha...but anywho...we are off topic!
Yes, update -- it's TOO DAMN COLD! LOL and I still didn't get my gas bottle refilled...More and more this is looking to be finished closer to spring or at least when it gets to the 30's or above. I don't like working with bare steel when it's 6 degrees out
I'm anxious to get back to work on it though, it would certainly help some of the mess in my garage. Jeep is getting lifted this weekend so I got that project going now.

Building items you need for the garage is a great way to get practice in. So far my list of shop builds include cart for the mig and gas bottle, one for the buzz box, dolly for the oxy/acetalene torch and tanks, grinder stand, a couple roller stands, and welding table. I'd post some pics, but I don't have them on my tablet. Your welds a progressively looking better. ê If you have trouble with burn through, try welding in short segments, letting the weld puddle cool between welds. Keep us posted on your progress.

Too cold to work on cart but not to do lift.
Cart is looking good though. Nice thing about "projects" is you can pick and choose what you like or don't, (both my own and others) and build a better mouse trap.
You buy welder new or used? How much?

Well the lift happened in a buddy's garage that's heated! LOL, I don't have that luxury at home. I got my welder on Craigslist but it was new in the box, paid $290 for it. And about $160 for the gas bottle, which I need to get refilled before working on this project again. I much look forward to bringing the cart over to my own garage to work on soon, hopefully PA will thaw out some soon...gettin real tired of this crap!Originally Posted by Larry's XJ

N. of DEEtroit here. 7th snowiest on record (so far). Wood stove only does just so much in pole barn with only plywood ceiling.
We dig salt out of the ground here, but shortage this year. Shortage of propane, now $5 a gal.
What I wouldn't give for a week of "freezing" weather, LOL.

Uh oh....look who's finally at their new home, and with a much more equipped workspace!
Now I just need a little bit warmer weather. Supposed to hit the 40's this weekend, so expect to see this project resurrected and some updates soon!

HEY. I recognize that HF workbench, LOL....glad you have a space to call your own, man.

Beach Bum
Nice workplace. That will make all the difference.
The salt on the XJ looks evil! I live in salt-water where things rust overnight, but I do not see that on my jeep. We have one road, and we do not salt it. It's Carolina...

Yep, I got a bad splash of it on the highway....ugh. Ready for this winter to be done. It has been the most brutal salt-winter I've seen in years.Originally Posted by SteveMongr
