Default Need help!!! Rust!! 93 xj

Ok I need help!! I have a 93 XJ that has some rust damage, and I'd really like to repair it the best I can, I have a few ideas. But I'm new to this website and the Jeep community, so please, any advice, step by step rebuilds, or anything really would be so helpful! I've attached some images so if you have any mods you've done, or anything I'd really appreciate any kind of help! You guys all have killer jeeps and really inventive mods on here so I'm sure a few of you might be able to help me out. Also, I was wondering if you guys knew where to get new carpet for the inside of my jeep? as you can see from the pictures, its a bit molded and well.. hanging through the bottom of my jeep. hahaha I'd like to replace my carpet when I fix my rust issue.

For your floors you have a couple options. Cut them out and weld new sheet metal in or I've seen people just rivet sheet metal over top of the holes. For your rockers you can cut the rust out and weld in a 6x2 rectangular tube in place of the rocker. That is the most common rocker repair you will see on here. Use the search function you should be able to find a couple 6x2 threads.

The blacksmith has a very good thread in fab section called xj total floor replacement. Don't know how big of a job you want this to be but blacksmiths thread is the "right way" of doing a floor repair instead of just band aiding it.

No problem everyone needs help from time to time. This is a great site with a lot of great and very helpful members. Blacksmiths thread has a lot of pics that will help you with your floors. I believe there is another thread called rockers in fab section that pretty much is a step by step to replace your
Rockers.

For the rockers you can buy replacement ones and weld them in or buy like mentioned above 2x6 steel and weld it to the rocker its alot stronger and if you hit some thing like rock while wheeling you wont damage the door

AWESOME! Thats exactly what I needed to see, wasn't exactly sure about what everything looked like. If you don't mind me asking, what size sheet metal did you use? were those the last welds you needed to make before throwing carpet over the metal, and how much did you have to spend in sheet metal to do the one side? oh, also did you get new carpet for the inside? and how much did you have to spend? Just trying to get ideas on what I'll need to save up. I'm ready to do some serious repairs, and I'm a mechanic so I can do it all myself.

I used 18ga sheet metal I bought a whole sheet you never know what you could use it for. It was an 8ft by 4ft sheet that ran me around 50 dollars if I remember right. I thought it would have been more. That was all I did for welds it's solid I didn't see a need to weld it completely around. I put a rubberized coating down instead of carpet it's a lot easier to clean

I have the same problem..anyone have any advice on what to do to the seats? My bolts on the seat are really rusted they'll either snap or be seezed (sp") for sure.

Soak them in pb blaster for a few days before you try to wrench on them. Then try to stick a quarter inch ratchet on them so they aren't being torqued so much. If they do break, drilling and tapping new holes are one option the other would be cutting them out and making new brackets.

As for the carpet check the junk yards, or go on eBay..if I recall it's 2 separate pieces and they are generally like 100 shipped brand new..but that's going from memory. If you want to buy new shop around online a bit first..or just bedliner it, it's pretty durable and can't be stained lol

Stockinteriors.com for carpet. I used what I thought was 20g steel, but I believe its thicker.

I'm actually working on mine. I used 22 guage steel, i think... lol. Lowes had theres mixed up, but its not to light. I kinda welded 3/4 around it, mainly because I am trying to finish my current welding wire so i can load my new stuff in. Anyway, I then put RV black sealent on the seams... let it dry a bit, then put fiberglass tigerhair stuff on it. This is all on the inside. On the outside, I am just going to fiberglass it over, then on both sides bedline the hell out of it, then lay down new carpet. This carpet that is in it is rotting and smells.

Also, its a good thing i removed the carpet, you never know what you find... I found some drug paraphenelia under there, which can get you in trouble. So, when you get a new jeep, check it thoroughly for any crazy stuff. lol

How did the fiberglass hold up? I am going to glass the edges of mine to make sure it is 100% sealed from any water and moisture getting in and just wondering if it seals it well enough?
