Default My bumper

I used a receiver hitch i picked up from the junk yard awhile back but to put it on i needed to take the bumper off so i thought of building one. I used 2x4 3/16 thick down the unibody frame cut most of the mounts from the hitch off and welded to the 2x4 then the local metal shop cut me a 6ft by 9 1/2 inch peace of 1/8 plate and did a 90 and 45 bend on it and i used it to cover it up. I will post more pictures when i finish welding it and get it painted. I spent $45 On the 2x4 $25 on the hitch and $50 for the cover peice. I was going to use 2x6 for the bumper but that was going to run me almost 110 dollars for just 6 ft so i used the hitch for the strength and covered it up. Let me know what you guys think.

Looks good. Are you planning on trimming down the ends? Looks like they stick out kind of far.

Haha I'm sure he is... I just bought some 2x6 and it was pretty cheap where I am, hmmm. But I like what you did with the covering, how did you do that? Is that piece a custom roll?

yes the 2x4 goes into the frame about 1 1/2 foot. It was just a peice of 6ft by 9 1/2 plate that they custom bent for me since i don't a break. They only charge around 5 dollars a bend so it ended up being a good deal and alot better looking then if i just bought a piece of angle iron.

Yeah it looks real nice, it didn't even occur to me to ask them about bending stuff for me. I'll have to look into that!

made these today to add some beef to the frame. The factory hitch rusted out and caused a little bit of rust starting on the frame back there I used this and drilled holes in the angle iron and welded it to the metal that is still good.
