Modifying a bought bumper..
I wasn't sure where to put this since I don't have enough progress to warrant a build thread...So MODs, if you think it needs to be moved, please do it.
Anyway... I bought a DIY winch bumper from JCR and couldn't have been happier. It seems a good kit, well thought out and designed. I needed one that would work for me without having to completely fab the entire thing. I'm working on both my CJ and my XJ here in Germany trying to get them ready to ship home to the states. So time was short. Also, shipping stuff here is stupid expensive so the fact that the JCR came in basically a flat box that wasn't so expensive was awesome.
Well... I'm not one to leave things alone so I started modifying it. Its been slow as much of my time is dedicated to the CJ but I thought I'd post a couple pics of where it is at after today.
I really like the look of the ARB bull bars... but I really don't like the cost of them. So with that in mind, and giving full credit to JCR for the base I'm starting with... here's my work in progress...

Can you get the headlight bezels off without pulling the bumper? Changing headlights is going to suck if not...
I really like the look though. I have the same bumper. I see yours collects muddy water/road grime in the same spots as mine. I think I cut my fender liner back too far so the tires just fling everything onto the bumper corners.

Thanks... and I'm planning to do some sort of tube. Have to spend some time playing with it though.

I'll have to look for sure but I think the bezels will still come off. Its hard to tell in the pics but there is still about a 1/4" gap between the riser and the grille. I had thought to make the thing removable at first but it would have been so much more work and time is not really in my favor right now. I think when it is all finished I'll have it sand blasted and the back/inside hit with a spray on liner. Your right about the tire flinging stuff all over it...I don't mind but as it only has a thin coat of BBQ grill paint on it the road salt here is killing me!

I'm thinking maybe bend the tube back towards the rear and then down, either in front or behind the marker light. Then where it meets the bumper kind of split the difference. Half the tube welded to the horizontal upper of the bumper, the other half tapering down along the vertical part a little. Kinda like this... feel free to laugh.

I would just have that vertical bar come straight down between the headlight and corner lens. It would be much more even looking. I understand why ARB makes them stick out like that to protect that corner, but it does look a little goofy and unnecessary. I'd rather replace a cracked corner lens on the rare occasion that I broke one than have done all that work for something that I'm not completely happy with. I haven't seen guys with stinger bumpers complaining that they only wished they had more corner protection...

I'd try to wrap around it and follow the bumper myself. Put bend in the top tube so it runs towards the rear, then a bend straight down to the top of the bumper. Bring the middle tube around and run it straight into the upper tunes down comer.
