Default Mechanical fan to da trash can!!!

So I decided to do away with the mechanical fan. Gonna replace it with another XJ electric fan. I've done my research and people haven't complained about the set up. Ordered a Hayden 3651 off of Amazon for $30. They sell at O'Reilly for $60... It's the screw in sensor version so I drilled and tapped the thermostat housing for 1/8 NPT and got that installed. All I have left is to finish the wiring and pick up another fan from the junkyard. I'll keep the updates coming.

Why not directly wire it to run when the ignition is on? Running it off a sensor will have it turn on and off like the standard aux fan. When the motors running the mech fan is always turning whereas now you only have a fan running when it gets hot.

I thought about that but I live here in Monterey and it never gets above like 80*. With the mechanical fan in, the electric fan never came on and it still took forever for the engine to warm up. If I get stationed where it's hot then I'll wire one up to the ignition and the other one to the sensor.

Would of been better off running a HO thermostat housing.

Problem is I didn't have one readily available. If I have problems then I'll pick one up

Even with just one fan right now it works like a charm! Took it around the block and let it idle in my driveway. Never got above 210*! The fan is set to kick on at about 195*. Hopefully gonna grab another fan Saturday from pick-n-pull. Here's some pics.

The mechanical fan is indeed spinning, but the fan clutch is there for a reason.

And there is also a reason the electric fans don't always run.

The fan shouldn't have to run all the time unless your cooling system is flawed.

Yep! Not to mention I totally hate mechanical fans! They rob power from the engine and with the gas prices the way they are I'm trying everything to get my MPGs up! Lol

What did you pull that electric fan from? it looks like it fits against the rad pretty snug and there's enough room for two.
