my rough country 4.5 lift came with the drop kit and it is made up of 4 plastic something or other material that is used to space the transfer case bracket with 4 new bolts that are long enough.

To make you own i would go to Lowes and buy yourself a foot and a hald of square steel tubing and four longer bolts. Cut the tubing into two pieces that right length so that one piece cane span the two bolts on the the driver side, drill a couple of holes in the tubing in the correct place and then put the piece between the brace and the mounting point and put your new bolts in. Same goes the the passenger side...

Super easy to do and plenty strong...

x2

or ive used 1.5" square tubing and drilled holes through it, bolted it to the frame with stock bolts and studs, then get 4 new bolts and bolt the crossmember to the square tubing. I also did this with 2" square tubing on my 5.5" lifted cherokee.

OK All the advice I`ve seen makes sense. I`m getting ready to install a lift on my Cherokee but it doesn`t look as if there are 4 bolts holding the transfer case bracket up. It looks like there are threaded studs coming down from the frame and then the transfer bracket is held up by nuts. How would I use a 1" spacer and bolts?

There should be one bolt and one stud w/nut on both sides. I dont know why they did that but all the xj's ive worked on is like that. Somebody may have made yours all studs though. The studs screw out of the frame nuts but you may need a stud puller to break them loose. Then you can just use the bolts in all 4 frame nuts.

To get a stud out, all you do is put 2 nuts on it and tighten down the one till it butts up against the other one. Then just work it with an open end wrench till it's out. I had to do this for the valver cover on my Dodge Dakota and it wasn't too bad other than limited room. Should be no problem working underneath your Jeep though.

a pipe wrench works good to get the studs out after the jam nuts strip them
edit: more than 1-1.5" drop starts putting alot of stress on the tranny mounts and shaft/seals

that is what we did with mine just be careful cause most likely the bolts will break and don't go over a inch and a half

Well I tried getting one of those nut/stud things out today just for the hell of it and the nut seemed like it was starting to turn but in reality the entire stud and nut were turning together below where it enters the frame and it snapped off at that point Now I`ll have to try an easy-out or something to get the rest of the stud out.

i feel your pain .......everytime i try to get something done its a seized rusted nut and everyone of them breaks......takes more work to get the damn part unbolted than it does to actually make the fix.
