thanks guys i just used schedule 80 pipe...yes yes i know..its not DOM. But for what these uni bodies should be put threw. schedule 80 is plendy. the size is 1.5'' witch pipe is measured on the inside so it would make it 2'' OD. 1/4 wall. my ex-inlaws own dixie 4x4 in st.george ut. They use the crap out of that stuff.

An offroad shop in Utah, one of the biggest wheeling communities, uses schedule 80 poop pipe to make suspension links?

2'' x 1/4'' wall DOM is like 9-10 bucks a foot. You only needed maybe 6 ft?

Id pay the extra money knowing my suspension links, which holds up my entire jeep, was made from the correct material.

Pipe dents REALLY easy....I know as when I was 16, I built a set of sliders out of schedule 80. Went wheeling once and the first rock I touched bent the rock slider straight into my rocker and door.

I think your execution and fab work are up to par, but I feel you skimped yourself. For all I know, they could hold up thru your type of wheeling, but they prob wouldnt last on any of my rigs, esp using a 3-link design.

Like I said, fab work looks good! Material choice, not so good.----> IMHO

i agree with hudfab. also, did you just weld the mount directly to the unibody without any plating? how the does the upper link mount look?

yea i must not use my jeep as hard as some other guys...i have built my links out of this stuff before and had no problems. maybe i have just got lucky before. when i say they use the crap out of it i mean they use if for like bumpers and tire carriers. (no bad on them) they build some amazing stuff that holds up. my bad for using it for links. well maybe u guys will see me rebuilding them soon my 3rd link is made of 1.5'' DOM and boxed in 12'' of the uni body then put the mount to it....and the mounts for the bottom links and welded on them plated up the sides. inside and outside the frame.
next time i will have to keep in mind that i will have to order the DOM...be cause no one wells it around here off the rack.

what? you used DOM for the upper link, but figured SCH-80 would suffice for lower links?

yea yea i know. i wish i would have asked around on my use of material before i just jumped into it....i thought it would be substantial material. just another learning experiance i guess. but yes i got the DOM from my buddy that just finished his 3rd link along with the joint and tube adaptor then on the axle side of the link i used one of the pocket style link ends off of a 2008 rubicon.

Both of which have triangulation and reinforcement in them. No big deal not using DOM on them.

Suspension and cages you really don't want to use anything but DOM.

Your skill is definitely there, just need to use the right material.
