Cool bumper but from the angle the pics are taken it looks like the winch mount needs more support to it???
The idea kinda came from a similar item made for ATV's that gave you the storage rack, but didn't kill your ground clearance as bad as straight out would, and I had some metal, and needed to learn how to weld (or at least practice)....so I went to town.
You can open the rear hatch with a full size cooler on the rack, and it is made of 1" square tubing.
The rack is removable from the z bar, reason being, I had planned on making a stand to use the rack itself inside the jeep for a shelf, but never got around to it.
I used some 1 1/4" tubing as the sleeve and 1" as the insert to let you remove the rack from the bar for more compact storage.
I also put a 4-5 deg angle on the rack so when loaded it didn't sag so bad.
I did learn one thing form this tho.......the extra weight and length of the z bar, combined with really bumpy & rough hunting roads, as well as driving around with a full grown deer on it, really did a number on the frame where the hitch mounts up.....it cracked the frame on the lower inside corner of both sides from the bumper forward about 12". I found this when I noticed the rack felt 'squishy' and started trying to figure out why.
Still works good on my 96, but the 88 (pictured) won't support it now.
It is kinda heavy too compared to the ones you buy thee days, probably in the 50 lb range.
I did have to modify it from these pics, as the insert into the hitch in the pic was only 1 1/4"...that lasted 3 days on the hunting property, so when I got home, I moved up a regular 2" receiver and thick wall insert, and added some extra triangular bracing at the 1st bend, and it has been fine ever since.
Sure it does! One question though... I saw you gusseted the bottom bend, were you planning on gusseting the top bend?

You've always got good ideas, man. Glad to see you're hangin' around on here again.

You failed to mention that LEAF SPRING FRONT CONVERSION!!!! Any details on it? Looks like you've got it setup to flex pretty well.

Home grown hood vents. I cut out the largest patches of hood I could in front where the air breaks over the front. Made my own vents out of aluminum by cutting the aluminum in one inch intervals. Then made a small mandrel out of 1" thick steel block and hammered the aluminum into it on the edges where the metal needed to be stretched to make the louvres

Very cool but you didn't explain the two fans on the hood. Maybe you did in the past and I missed it? Those are for the same reason I would presume. Were they not enough?

Its got yj 4" lift springs up front with 6" home made shackles outboarded to match the factory super duty spring pad width. Frame plates front to back fit steering box brace and all that. Very home brew I guess. Springs are pretty flat and shackle angle is 45 so it's nice and soft. Bilstein 5100s in the garage but I'm not there yet

Those are thermostatically controlled oil coolers. The Chevy 4.3 has and engine oil cooler in the radiator. I moved it there. The other is for the tranny. Fans come on at 160°

I built my own front bumper out of aluminum. I wanted to keep the Jeep as light as possible. Total weight of this bumper made from 1/4 and 3/8" aluminum is about 65#, or the same as an NP231 transfer case. It was patterned after one made at the time by Olympic. I added to the skid plate design on purpose to get that big skid plate made from 3/8" T6 plate. Looks a little funky and you might think it over kill, but it does have a purpose. We had lots of deer where I used to live. Wife got three of them with her car. The plate is designed to deflect the animal downward under the Jeep instead of having them smash the front clip or come over the top of the hood. So does it work. Yes, and the animal survived a 35mpg hit, got up and ran away.
That's sweet. I've got a few other random projects in the works as well. Like building my own heat exractor hood. Lol have ANOTHER hood that's going to and up being the actual base for it but started mocking it up on my parts jeep.
Thats the center section out of a wj hood cut. Going to have to rip a bit out of the center more than likely to make it all line up but hopefully ill finish it and itll look good.
