my shocks are shot, nine times out of ten they cant even hold the hatch by itself. when i have the can full i have to remove it before lifting the hatch.
i have thought of using some vice grips on the shocks while they're extended to keep the hatch up but i'd rather not find out what happens when they slip and the hatch slams down with the gas can full lol

this is how it looks now. i got a beefy strap for it so its pretty solid on there now and its locked

I test fitted mine today. Hatch props will hold it and the blitz bracket up empty. I straped it to the deck to test....ended up scratching my decklid all up and messing up the "4.0L" logo...well...might just be another reason to go ahead and toss it on. Still trying to sell myself on it 100%.

Looks really good, I just couldnt bring myself to drilling 4 holes in my hatch, now is your hatch fiberglass or steel? I saw the 4 holes in the holder.
my hatch is metal. and i put oversized washers on the bolts to distribute the weight all around. i'm pretty happy with the outcome although it did take me a while to figure out exactly how i wanted the strap to fit in there. the strap you see belongs on a seat for a jet fighter lol

So, unless I missed where you said, does it hold a full 5 gallons of fuel with the gate opened, or do you have to prop up the gate with a stick or something???
Disregard.
Perhaps some beefy shocks back there could support the weight?? Someone has to make a gnarly set of lift shocks you could use, yeah?

A removal mount would be good, gives you options. Something like my buds..
Your can is on Diesel, du willst Bleifrei, ich denke. The card is interchangeable, they should all be in there.Originally Posted by OverlandXJ
Ideally you want an older NATO style or Scepter fuel cannister, dont buy one of the newer CARB compliant cans. Quite frankly they suck..A removal mount would be good, gives you options. Something like my buds..
