thank you mike this guy thinks he is gods gift to jeeps yet i doesnt show of his rig at all as far as im concerned he is driving a moped, my jeep is a pos but i love it and gladly show it off
my jeep is in the jeep builds, and it gets used. only difference is that the only pics of it off road, aren't taken by me....because I'm driving not there to pose pics.
mike, I sincerely doubt that you'd be able to tear my tow points off. I can actually pretty much guarantee it. the clevis would break first

Wow love the arguing going on here. Glad I could spark such a debate.
JeepCoMJ I saw your build page with your rear bumper its stout but to much for me. If we ever happen to be wheeling together in this life time I'll let you pull all you want on my Jeep. I'm sure the hook will fail before the mount I made will.
Please inform me of how they are no stronger then mounts that after market companies put out that are not tied together?

if someone wanted me to hook to there dang back hatch and pull them out i would... wouldnt be my fault... i think it looks pretty strong myself... its not like your pulling out a hummer or something... a dang 4 wheeler winch would pull out most cherokees... lol... Ive pulled bumpers off trucks and everything else and never seen anyone get hurt or anything... its part of the fun... they look great and if something goes wrong with them in the next 5 years then when u build another set youll no what to make better... if they last forever then more power to ya!
longisland,
I've NEVER looked at aftermarket rear tow hooks for a cherokee. only dealt with couple stockers (which are NOT strong enough).
I've actually never even put hooks on my jeep...only clevis mounts. seen enough tow hooks go flying to know that I'm not a fan. of course, when everyone else is getting 7000lb rigs stuck to their windows in quite a thick mess of mud (no need to mention where...no reason to give green bastards ammo), and are too stupid to upgrade from stock tow hooks...of course they will go flying.
I never build something that I think will fail....it ALWAYS gets built so that the only part that could fail is the vehicle frame itself...and with enough mounting points that that shouldn't be an issue.
only reinforcement I would suggest on yours is to add sideways reinforcement either from hook mount to hook mount (very easy to do, and you have the space to do it behind the bumper), or from hook mount horizontally to something structural.

I have never seen after market rear mounts for XJs as well. I was thinking about front mounts for a comparison.
If I ever come past a stuck hummer I'll be sure to keep driving hahaha.

lol. well, in the stuck hummer scenario tow hooks aren't everything.
redneck buddy of mine has a redneck exo on his redneck xj with (surprise) redneck lift and 33x13.50 superswampers....has pulled out an h2 with it (not surprising, hummers suck) and regularly pulls out fullsize ford duallys running 40's and up....
and he doesn't exactly have tow points....just bumpers, chains and straps. classic redneck stubborn dude who won't listen to safety tips lol.

lol. nah...though I must admit I won't wheel with just him because I'd never let him pull me out...he is a bit hard on the skinny pedal (unsafe when extracting) and typically it results in things being torn off of vehicles...
