That looks nice! Great job! I'd love to do it, but my main concern is what was already brought up. Hitting it on the trail. Anyone have anything similar to it or anything to prevent that?

It was off of a boat trailer that i had, it would have been a little more work without it though

What sizes did you cut the 3FT section into?

And what sizes were the plates?

Make sure to make your own thread, that way you don't hijack Tim's thread.

About $25 for the square tubing, and the plates I already had, same with the hub, and hardware was < $20
Also depends, this is better for someone with no welder, but if you have a good welder it would cut cost on hardware and be just as dependable, i don't know of anywhere that have these carrier's in production or any kind for sale.

You had mentioned that you were working on a idea to attach a hatch shock.I have gone over this senario several times, and all I can come up with,is that it will assist in lowering, but not raising. This is a great, cost effective plan for a tire carrier. You see,I will be in and out of the hatch all day long,(I am a rural mail carrier, and my Cherokee is my route vehicle). So the dragging or hitting the carrier is of no concern to me.The creek I have to ford on occasion is pretty low in summer and no grade.
I plan to build this, any additional info will be appreciated.Anything that will help my back will is a plus.
