Default Help with front bumper fabrication.

I've got a buddy of mine that will be allowing me to use his full shop and access to all of his tools including a welder. I need to get some plans drawn up for this thing or maybe use someone else's plans. If anybody here can help I'd appreciate it.

I am looking to fab a front bumper (non-winch; two d-ring tabs), kind of pre-runner style like a JCR.. I'll try to get a picture so you'll have a better idea of what I'm talking about but I'm sure 90% of you know what the JCR's look like. Basically I need a list of the materials that I'll need as well as suggestions.

It's very much appreciated.

Most guys whom build stuff like that and keep measurements, use them to make money. So it will be hard to find someone on the internet that will just tell you what you need, how much, and exact measurements. Hell that is the Hard parts, cutting it up and welding is easy. But good luck

Go to your local metal supply. Get a 4'x4' sheet of 3/16" plate. Get a 6"x3' sheet of 1/4" plate. Get a 2"x24" peice of flat bar. Get two peices of 6' long 2"x4"x3/16" tube. Get some other tube for your prerunner tube. With this much metal, you will have plenty to build a front and rear bumper. You will also have enough left over to make other skids and stuff.

As far as plans, thats up to you, just think about what you want, draw it, make a cardboard model, and go from there.

Have you decided if you want to use moly or mild steel yet?

Well, I'd really only like to buy as much steel as I'll need for the front. Planning on the doing the rear some other time when I can afford it. But yeah, thanks for listing the supplies. Now I'm just clueless as to how to draw this thing up and even how to mount it.

just start with your mounting brackets and go from there or I can just make you one for around $220

first off, let me just say i hope your username doesnt have anything to do with that ignorant yahoo sitting in the oval office...

now think about this, why would you need to make a bumper out of chromoly, if your going to bolt it to sheet metal?? if mild steel wont take the impact im sure that the sheet metal its bolted to is going to be destroyed, try searching a lot more on this topic theres plenty out there to look at

moly is wayy too expensive and WAY overkill. Most people don't use moly unless its for a NHRA car, Trophy Truck, or a KOH comp buggy.

Hell, most racing associations only require .188 wall 2" DOM tubing for roll cages in competition level vehicles.
